Quick facts: In Jan 2004, ERDA proposed to build a CHP plant at its new pellet factory in Bertrix in Luxembourg province. In Nov 2005, the turnkey EPC contract was awarded to a joint venture of AMEC SPIE and Vyncke. Heat output is used to dry sawdust used to form about 100,000 tpy of pellets. The €30mn investment was financed by Dexia Lease.

Quick facts: This was continental Europe's first full-size poultry litter biomass power plant. It is owned by a joint venture of Delta BV, Austrian Energy & Environment AG, and agricultural coops Duurzame Energieproductie Pluimveehouderij (DEP)and Zuidelijke Land- En Tuinbouworganisatie (ZLTO). DEP will supply 440,000 typ of litter by truck, mostly from southern Holland. Construction on the €150mn power station started on 28 Aug 2006 and the official opening was on 3 Sep 2008. About 25 staff work at the facility.

Quick facts: In Sep 2005, the Dutch company Evelop, now part of Eneco, announced plans for two 50-MW bioenergy plants in the Farmsum port zone of Delfzijl. The new facilities were expected to supply about 35% of Metalpark’s energy demand, but the project stalled for some years. In Jun 2010, Groningen Province issued an Environmental Management Act permit to Eneco for a single 49-MW biomass power station in the Metalpark area. The Bio Golden Raand project will burn around 300,000 (tpy of recycled wood delivered to Delfzijl by ship, train and truck from the Netherlands and other countries. In Jul 2011, a consortium was contracted for the EPC work. Construction started in Oct 2011. The plant cost about €155mn. About half the electricity is soldto AkzoNobel Industrial Chemicals
