Snowflake Location: AZ Operator: Renegy Holdings Inc Configuration: 1 X 24 MW Operation: 2008 Fuel: wood, paper waste Boiler supplier: B&W T/G supplier: GE EPC: Evergreen Engineering, Crown E&C Quick Facts: This $53mn plant was completed in Apr 2008 and went into full operation in Jun and has 20yr PPAs with Arizona Public Services and Salt River Project. The site is adjacent to a Catalyst Paper newsprint mill west of Snowflake formerly owned by Abitibi. Babcock and Wilcox retrofit a boiler re-located from Abitibi’s Sheldon TX mill with an open-bottom BFB combustor. The Sheldon mill also supplied other plant equipment including conveyors and screw presses. Snowflake’s fuel is woody waste material and thinnings from nearby forest lands plus 250tpd of waste recycled paper fibers. The new plant is connected to the grid though an existing digital substation and dedicated 69KV line to Cholla power station. Photograph courtesy of
