Quick facts: In Nov 2006, GE Energy announced the sale of three 109FB single-shaft CCGT blocks for the Hadjret En-Nouss plant sited in Tipaza, 100km west of Algiers. Project company SKH is owned 49% by a consortium of Sonatrach, Sonelgaz and AEC and 51% by Algerian Utilities International Ltd, a joint venture between SNC-Lavalin and mubadala. GE also has a 20yr LTSA with SNC, which is the plant O&M contractor. SKH has a 20yr take-or-pay PPA with Sonelgaz. The plant cost about $885mn.

Quick facts: This $277mn plant was originally planned as an IPP, but was instead built by SPE. The Arab Fund for Social and Economic Development made a $98mn loan for the project in May 1999. Other lenders include the Islamic Development Bank ($205mn) and Societe Generale which provided $24mn in lira. The design allows for future conversion to combined-cycle operation. In 2006, SPE selected Rovsing Dynamics to supply a new condition monitoring system for the GTs.

Quick facts: Kahrama is Algeria’s first independent water and power project (IWPP) and is capable of producing 86,880m³/day of potable water in addition to electricity. The $400mn plant has 25yr electricity and water PPAs with Sonelgas and Sonatrach. The project was partly financed by Coface and Japan Bank for International Cooperation with the balance from AEC. The $260mn EPC contract was awarded in early 2002.

Quick facts: In Jun 2008, Shariket Karhaba Koudiet Eddraouch, owned by Sonelgaz and Sonatrach, awarded GE and Iberinco the EPC contract for this power station in El-Tarf province, 40km east of Annaba, and 700km east of Algiers. The contract period was specified as 48.5mos but completion was somewhat delayed. The first two blocks went online in Dec 2012 and the third block in Oct 2013. The project cost was said to be $2.7bn.

SNC-Lavalin Capital structured the required financing and SNC-Lavalin also has a 12yr contract for plant O&M. In Dec 2003, the U.S. Export-Import Bank approved a $192mn, long-term loan guarantee to support construction of the Skikda project. In Mar 2004, Alstom was awarded a €55mn contract for two HRSGs and a pair of 195-MW steam sets.
