Quick facts: In Jun 2002, simple-cycle operations started after about a year of construction on a 12ha site at the Petrobras Gabriel Passos refinery (Regap) in Belo Horizonte. The project started as a 50:50 joint venture between Fiat and Petrobras, but in late 2001, Fiat sold its stake to Edison SpA, which formed a JV with Petrobraas called Ibiritermo SA. The ST came online in Jun 2003, 9wks ahead of schedule. Natural gas is delivered from the offshore Campos Basin via the Rio-Belo Horizonte pipeline. BNP Paribas was the lead financial arranger and secured a $65mn loan partially guaranteed by Servizi Assicurativi per il Commercio Estero. The project also obtained a $66mn direct loan from the U.S. Eximbank plus a $22mn local currency loan from BNDES.
