Quick facts: This plant near Guayaquil is fueled by gas from the Amistad offshore gas field. The gas-by-wire power plant is planned for eventual conversion to combined-cycle operation. The 14.5ha site is in Baja Alto, about 2km from the coast, and is connected to the gas production works by a 70km pipeline. A 14km transmission line connects to Transelectric’s existing 138kV line Milagro-Machala. The gas turbines were ordered from in June 2000.
