The EPC contract and notice to proceed was given in Apr 2008 and Ansaldo also secured a LTSA for the GTs and generators. Civil works began in Oct 2008, hand-over was in Nov 2010, and commercial operation was declared on 11 Feb 2011. The hexagonal concrete stack is 100m high and matches the cladding of the machine hall, boiler houses and the other plant modules. The 70ha site is centrally located near load centers in the townships of Montanaso Lombardo and Tavazzano con Villavesco, 25km from Milan. Water is available from the Muzza Canal and discharged to the Belgiardino Canal and ultimately the Adda River.In 1968, the facility was transferred to Enel who extended Tavazzano with 4 X 320-MW conventional oil- and gas-fired units. The small steam sets have been retired and the first two 320-MW steam sets have been reused in two CCGT blocks. Units-7&8 remain in service essentially as built.
