Quick facts: The N26.5bn Egbema project was approved in Apr 2006 as one of the seven Niger Delta plant awarded by the Federal Government of Nigeria under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP). Egbema is about 30km from Owerri. The project has been delayed by lack of access to natural gas and transmission capacity.

Olorunsogo-I

Quick facts: In Mar 2002, CMEC and SEPCO No 3 announced a $390mn agreement with the Ministry of Mines and Power to build two gas-fired, gas turbine power plants with a total capacity of 670 MW. The deal also included the construction of related substations and transmission lines and assistance in plant operations. The Olorunsogo plant in Ogun is 70km west of Lagos. Ground-breaking was in Sep 2004 and full construction started in Mar 2005. China ExIm Bank supplied a N24bn loan for the projects. The plant, also known as Papalanto, has had a checkered operational history and has had insufficient gas deliveries.
