Quick facts: This site is on the southeastern outskirts of the city of Kaliningrad. Project development began in Apr 1991 when the city government began assembling the necessary property. In 1994, the regional administration decided to double the plant size and VNIPIEnergoprom completed the feasibility study for the extension. In 1998, the project company was reorganized with RAO UES holding 67.3% and Yantarenergo the balance. Phase I was bid in 2002 and Belenergostroy (now Tsentroenergomontazh) was selected as the general contractor while Energomashexport-Power Machines was awarded the equipment contract. Construction started in Q4 2002 and production began on 28 Oct 2005.

Quick facts: This project involved repowering Unit-6 (online 1975) at the eixsting conventional power station, which is located 150km southwest of St Petersburg. Siemens supplied the GTs and generators and new control systems. Construction began in May 2008 and the project was commissioned on 23 Mar 2012 as the largest CCGT in Russia.

Quick facts: This project was ceremonially commissioned on 23 Nov 2012. It is the third large-scale CCGT built by Gazprom companies in the St Petersburg area in recent years. Pravoberezhnaya supplies energy to industrial, residential and municipal users in the Nevsky and Krasnogvardeisky districts with a population of some 700,000.

Quick facts: At completion, this was the third modern combined-cycle plant in Russia. The plant is located in a resort area characterized by complex soils and high seismicity and was designed, built and commissioned in two years. The plant is now being extended to support the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Quick facts: In May 2008, Enka was slected to this build CCGT after an open competition anounced in 2007. It extended a conventional 600-MW thermal plant first commissioned in 1963. Construction began in Q3, 2008, and testing began in Jun 2011. The new block was commissioned on 21 Sep 2011 and cost 16.6bn rubles (excluding VAT).

Quick facts: Development of this project began in 2006 and the facility serves new residential and commerical customers in the Kirov and Krasnoselsky areas of St Petersburg. The brownfield 24.2ha site is in part a former ash dump of Leningrad-14 power station. In addition to the CCGT block, the plant has two hot water boilers. A second phase is under construction. The development company is part of Sintez Petroleum.
