Quick facts: The tender for this plant was in Jan 1998 and in Nov 1998 AES Corp was selected as the preferred bidder in consortium with Hayley’s Ltd. In Dec 2000, the ADB supplied a $26mn loan and a $52mn syndicated loan from commercial banks under ADB’s political risk guarantee scheme. The operators have a 20yr PPA with CEB.

Quick facts: This $300mn plant in Kerawalapitiya was inaugurated on 11 Dec 2008 by President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The operators have a 25yr PPA with CEB. The project was approved in 2005 and is LNG capable. The 25ac site was sand-filled and marshy and required extensive ground preparation before construction. Lakdhanavi structured a €152mn debt component for the scheme through HSBC. This was supported by export credit agencies in the USA, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, France and Austria.
