Quick facts: In Sep 2005, a JV of Siemens and Koch Transporttechnik was awarded a $522mn EPC contract for this project at Deir-Ali in Qudsaya, about 50km from Damascus. In Nov 2006, EGI was awarded a contract for the supply of an air-cooled Heller cooling system for Deir Ali. Vattenfall Europe PowerConsult did the feasibility study. In Nov 2004, the European Investment Bank made a €200mn loan for the project with a further $100mn coming from AFESD. The plant came online to schedule in 2009.

Quick facts: In February 1993, PEE and MHI signed a contract for the turnkey construction of a CCGT plant at Jandar financed by a $385mn OECF loan. The site is on the edge of the desert 30km south of Homs and 135km north of Damascus in the center of the country. Commercial GT operation began in Feb 1995, 22mos after the start of project implementation. The steam units started in August and November 1995, respectively. Gas is supplied from fields in the northeast.

Quick facts: In Jul 2005, Koch and TOEC were awarded a contract to extend the simple-cycle gas turbine plants at both Nasierh and Zezoun with 165-MW combined-cycle steam sets. Both plants will be equipped with EGI's Heller dry cooling systems and the work scope also includes residential complexes for plant workers plus extensive water handling and water treatment facilities. A March 2001 loan from the AFESD will cover 42% of the project costs while Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development will cover 25%. The Syrian government will finance the balance of project.
