In Jan 2010, HECO signed a 2yr contract with Renewable Energy Group to supply 3-7mn gal of biodiesel for the new machine.

Kalaeloa Location: HI Operator: Alstom Power for Kalaeloa Partners Configuration: 199-MW, 2+1 combined-cycle plant with GT11N gas turbines Operation: 1990-1991 Fuel: fuel oil HRSG supplier: Deltak T/G supplier: ABB EPC: Southern Engineering Intl, ABB Quick facts: This cogen plant produces high- and low-pressure steam. Typically, some of the steam is used to generate electricity, and the rest is sent to the adjacent Tesoro oil refinery. For a time, these were the only machines of their type using heavy fuel oil. Keahole Location: HI Operator: Hawaii Electric Light Co Configuration: 60-MW, 2+1 CCGT with LM2500 gas turbines, 1 X 18.5 MWE GT35 gas turbine, 1 X 17.5 LM2500 gas turbine, 1 X 22.5 MW LM2500 gas turbine Operation: 1988-2009 Fuel: diesel oil HRSG supplier: IST T/G supplier: GE, Siemens, Stewart & Stevenson, ABB Stal, Asea, Brush, Elin EPC: Black & Veatch, Stewart & Stevenson, Performance Mechanical Inc, American Electric, Isemoto Contracting Quick facts: This is now the largest power plant on the Big Island and also houses four 2.5-MW diesel gensets. Hamakua Location: HI Operator: Black River Energy LLC Configuration: 63-MW, 2+1 combined-cycle plant with LM2500 gas turbines Operation: 2000 Fuel: naptha HRSG supplier: Aalborg T/G supplier: GE EPC: J A Jones, Burns & McDonnell Quick facts: This plant was built at the site of the former Hamakua Sugar Co mill in Haina by a 50:50 joint venture of JA Jones Ventures and TECO Power Services Corp. The output can account for as much as one-third of the Big Island’s total demand. Hamakua is one of the few U.S. plants burning naptha on a sustained basis. Power is sold to Hawaii Electric Light.
