High Bridge
Location: MN
Operator: Xcel Energy
Configuration: 570-MW, 2+1 CCGT block with M501F gas turbines
Operation: 2008
Fuel: natural gas
HRSG supplier: Nooter
T/G supplier: MHI, Melco
EPC: CH2M
Quick facts: This new-build replaces a coal-fired plant whose first unit went online in 1923. Site prep started in Aug 2005, groundbreaking was in May 2006 and the plant was completed in May 2008. The High Bridge CC plant was designed to blend in with the riverfront setting and the 11-story structure also protects from heavy winter weather and minimizes noise impacts. The new plant covers has about half the footprint of the now-demolished coal-fired plant and the new twin stacks are one-third the height of the old single stack. The turbines were secured from a cancelled project, thereby saving an estimated 6mos on the construction schedule.
