Buck CCGT

Quick facts: The Buck CCGT shares a site on the Yadkin River with a mostly-retired coal-fired plant. In May 2008, Duke signed a $275mn EPC contract with Shaw Group for the new facility. It went into operation to schedule in Nov 2011.

Quick facts: Plant Cleveland went commercial on 4 Dec 2012. It cost about $330mn and is expected to contribute $30mn in new state and local tax revenue over the next 20yrs. Some 300 jobs were created at the height of construction and eight permanent positions have been created to operate the plant. The 275ac site is near Kings Mountain. Plant Cleveland will, in part, supply electricity through long-term contracts with North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation and North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number 1.

Dan River CCGT

Quick facts: Dan River is on the Dan River in Rockingham County. The original coal-fired station began commercial operation in 1949. All three coal units, along with three existing combustion turbines, were retired in 2012. Construction began in Jan 2011 and the new CCGT plant went commercial on 10 Dec 2012.

Quick facts: Installation of the dual-fuel Wayne County CCGT required the construction of a natural gas pipeline to fuel the new units, The Wayne County complex near Greensboro includes the retired H F Lee coal-fired plant and the 5-unit Wayne peaking plant. When the CCGT block went into commerical service on 31 Dec 2012, the site was renamed the H F Lee Energy Complex.

Quick facts: Rosemary Power Station is in Roanoke Rapids and went online in Dec 1990. In Feb 2005, Dominion Virginia Poweracquired the PS for $40.2mn in cash and also assumed the facility’s long-term debt and associated costs of $60.5 million. The station was purchased from Panda-Rosemary LP, a partnership of units of Panda Energy and Nortland Power Income Fund. At completion, Rosemary supplied up to 65,000 pph of steam and 2,000t of chilled water for the adjacent Bibb Rosemary greige manufacturing complex. The textile plant was sold to WestPoint Stevens in Feb 1997 and closed in early 2001.
