Fierza

Quick facts: Work on Fierza was started by Chinese contractors, but by the end of the construction project, the Chinese had been dismissed. The original investment was on the order of $286mn. The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) contracted VA TECH and Colenco Power Engineering to complete a comprehensive overhaul of Fierza as part of the Drin River Cascade Rehabilitation Project (DRCRP). This contract was first initiated in 1996 but stalled until Apr 2003 when work resumed. The first overhaul was completed in Nov 2004 and all works by March 2007. VA TECH delivered two new 32,000kg runners and four new governor systems while refurbishing other electromechanical components. Alstom supplied new control systems.

Shkopeti

Quick facts: Shkopeti Dam was built from 1958 to 1963 on the Mati River downstream of the Ulze project and about 25km from the mouth of the Mati at the Adriatic Sea. It is a concrete gravity dam reaching a maximum height of 52m with a crest length of 89m. The powerhouse is 250m downstream of the dam. It was rehabilitated during the 1990s. A project is underway to equip Shkopeti with a dam monitoring and alarm system while preparing an emergency action plan.

Quick facts: The Vau Dejes hydropower complex on the Drin River comprises three separate dams: Qyrsaq, Zadeja, and Ragam. The powerhouse is located at the downstream toe of Qyrsaq Dam, an embankment dam with an adjacent concrete gravieyty dam containing intake and spillway structures. The works were constructed from 1971-1973 period and cost $86mn.
