T/G supplier: Harbin
EPC: China National Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Corp, China Gezhouba Group, Fourth Engineering Corp of Northwest Power Construction
Quick facts: In late 1999, the government gave the go-ahead for this plant on the upper Yellow River about 150km from Xining. The $795mn investment was made by 10 different companies at the national and provincial levels. Construction got underway in Aug 2001 and the first set went online in Sep 2004. The power project is a component of the West-to-East Power Transmission Project and Unit-1 put China’s installed hydropower base over 100 GW for the first time. The main hydraulic structures include a 133m reinforced concrete-faced, rock-filled dam, right-bank diversion system, left-bank spillway, and two discharge tunnels. The diversion power generation system includes a 300m-long-diversion channel, 49 to 58m high-gravity dam intake, and five 8m diameter steel penstocks.
