Quick facts: In Oct 2007, construction got underway on the Laohuzui power station. River closure was in Mar 2008, and, in July2011, Laohuzui was completed. The 79m high, 256m long Laohuzui Dam is the tallest dam in Tibet. Average production is expected to be about 500 GWh, or around 20% of present demand in Tibet. This station was a leading energy project of the "11th-Five-Year-Plan" period and required a total investment of Rmb 1,288mn.

Zhikong
Location: Tibet

Quick facts: In May 2003, construction work began on the Zhikong hydroelectric plant on the Lhasa river in Maizhokunggar County. The plant completed in May 2007 at a cost of Rmb 1,337bn. Annual production is expected to be about 407 GWh.
