Chicoasen Location: CHIS Operator: Comision Federal d'Electricidade Configuration: 5 X 300 MW, 3 X 310 Francis Operation: 1980-2005 T/G supplier: MHI, Asea, Alstom Quick facts: With the completion of three new 310-MW units, ordered from Alstom in Nov 2000 for €140mn, this became Mexico's largest hydro plant. It is connected to the grid by six 400kV lines and two 115kV lines. The plant is also known as Manuel Moreno Torres, named after a CFE Director General in the late 1950s. El Cajon Location: NAY Operator: Comision Federal d'Electricidade Configuration: 2 X 375 MW Operation: 2007 T/G supplier: Kharkov, Electrosila EPC: ICA, Energomachexport Quick facts: In May 2002, CFE began preparations for tendering this plant on the Rio Santiago. Bids were invited in Sep 2002, and in Mar 2003, a consortium led by ICA won the tender with a bid of $748mn. This was the first EPC contract for a hydroelectric plant under Mexico’s financed public works program. Equipment was manufactured in Brazil, Russia, and Ukraine. The dam is 640m long and 178m high. The scheme was tendered by CFE in 2007 and the selected contractors built the world's tallest concrete-faced earthfill damat 220m The manufacture and supply of the main equipment for the T/G sets was completed in 2010 and the two units went online in Oct and Dec 2012, respectively. Water released from the dam is used for the Coahuayana Irrigation Dist 20km downstream. No public funding was used for this CDM project which has average annual production of about 42 GWh..
