Quick Facts: The Norsk Hydro power system in Røldal-Suldal consists of reservoirs and seven power plants along the Røldal and Suldal watershed and terminating at Suldal Lake. Hydro bought hydro rights in the river system in the 1950s. Statkraft is a 4.8% owner in the scheme. As Suldal and Røldal were built, construction was ongoing at Hydro’s aluminum plant at Karmøy on the west coast.

Tysso-II

Tysso II required extensive dam and tunnel construction from April 1964 to February 1968 including a 15.4km supply tunnel collecting all the side streams around Lake Ringedalsvann. Maximum head is 735m. A new 300kV line was built from Åsen in Skjeggedal to Røldal. Tyssefaldene is owned by DNN Industrier A/S (40%), Outokumpu Norzink AS (40%) and Statkraft (20%).
