Quick facts: This HPP was originally named Lotru Ciunget and was renamed in Oct 2012 on its 40th anniversary after the renowned Romanian hydropower engineer Dorin Pavel. It the second largeset HPP in Romania. Work started in1966 and the first unit went online in Nov 1972 with the last unit finishing in Aug 1975. This is one of three HPP built on the Lotru River also including Malnia and Bradisor.

Quick facts: In Sep 2009, Hidroelectrica inaugurated the Raul Alb hydro plant in Fenes town, Caras-Severin County. The €18mn plant is the first fully-automated station on the Hidroelectrica system. The dam intake is connected to the powerhouse by a fiber optic cable along the water tunnel, another first in Romania. The plant was under development since 1981, but was not licensed until Aug 2006.
