Quick facts: This HPP was put into operation in Sep 1954 and it remains th elargest hydopower plant in Krasnodar. Its original operating regime has been modified due to heavy siltation of two associated reservoirs. Unit-2 was rebuilt in 2007 with a new Tyazhmash turbine installed in place of the original Nohab machine.

Cheboksarskaya

Quick facts: Development at the Cheboksarskaya site dates to 1931 when it was one of 10 proposed hydro plants on the Volga River (9 were built). In the 1950s, HPI worked on the original design and this was modified beginning in 1960. Originally, 32 bulb turbines were specified but this was changed to 18 vertical Kaplan units with several important design innovations. Construction began on 22 Jan 1967 and the first unit went commercial on 31 Dec 1980. Cheboksarskaya has 4.5km of associated structural waterworks including a 980m earthen dam reaching 42m height plus a a 548.5m powerhouse. For 30yrs, the plant has operated with reservoir elevation of around 63m as opposed to the design elevation of 68m. The required works were authorized in Apr 2010 and are expected to complete in 2012. In May 2008, HydroGK began electromechanical upgrades at Cheboksarskaya and to date two machines have been rebuilt. The PS is connected to the grid two 220kV circuits and three 500kV circuits.

Quick facts: The first unit at this HPP was commissioned in Jun 1952. The dam is the final step on the Volga-Don Canal. Units 2&3 were modernized in 1999/2001. Unit-4 was completely rebuilt with a a new Andritz turbine and Elsib generator. The rebuild commissioned in Jan 2012. Plant production averaged 525 GWh from 2010-2012.
