Quick facts: In 1951, Hans Hofmann, along with architects Bercher & Zimmer and urban landscaper R Arioli were retained to undertake the design
for KW Birsfelden. Hofmann wanted to avoid constructing a power house resembling a heavy, closed block and opted for a hall glazed down its full
length. The 300t rolling weight of the craneway was offset by means of forked piles. The green-painted concrete is set off by white lines and
white window frames to create a signature piece of industrial design.

bulb T/G sets totaling about 10 MW with a 1.3-MW auxiliary turbine.

Quick facts: The 5.9m Kaplan turbines are among the largest in Switzerland. Construction of the new power station included various
environmental protection measures as well as measures to restore and rehabilitate the natural landscape along the River Aare. Water expanses,
islands and natural growth areas were established along an 8.4km stretch of river. In 1896, Motor-Columbus built the first hydro plant near this site.

Quick facts: This plant has been in operation for over 75yrs and has been extensively overhauled. On 15th May 2003, ewz’s new 80yr
concession for its hydro operations on the Limmat Rive was received from Aargau and Zurich cantons and ground-breaking on the plant rebuild
followed on 30 Jun. The CH76.8mn project was completed in Mar 2008 and included transition to fully automated
operation, replacement of the 50kV substation by a 110kV switchyard, work on the low-voltage system, fish passes, and many repairs and modifications
to ancillary mechanical works plus modifications to local waterflow regimes.
