Cwm Croesor Rebuild

Quick Facts: Cwm Croesor is in Snowdonia National Park in North Wales
and began operations about 100yrs ago to power local slate quarries. The
former exposed pipeline was replaced with an underground pipeline and
the existing dam and powerhouse were refurbished. The location required
particular care in the rebuilding effort with the use of stonewall
terracing and geotextiles. The plant is connected to the local
distribution grid with underground cables.

Maentwrog

Quick Facts: The T/G sets have been rebuilt twice and the plant's
capacity doubled. Ownership by BNG is due to the
fact that Trawsfynydd nuclear power station uses the same lake for
cooling water.

Talybont

Quick Facts: This is the first community-based energy plant in
Wales. ToUE was set-up in 2001 to restore hydropower generation at the
Dwr Cymru Talybont Reservoir. The group secured funding
for a detailed technical study and secured a grant for £90,000 for
equipment and installation in a structure formerly used to provide power
for the reservoir works. A 15yr lease was
negotiated for the new minihydro power station.
