Quick facts: Development studies for this project began in 1962 by the French firm Sofralec. In 1973, a govermnet commission was established to take the project forward. The scheme was tendered in 1976 and funded by Banco do Brasil. The first unit was commissioned on 21 Oct 1982, about 9mos past the original schedule.

Quick facts: Construction of this HPP began in 1937 by a German consortium known as Consal, but work stopped in May 1942 due to World War II. It was finished afer the War by local and American contractors. A major modernization program was completed at Gabriel Terra from 1994 to 1997. The work scope included new runners and governors, generator overhauls, new I&C systems, and ancillary equipment. The renovated sets were uprated by about 20%. Dr Gabriel Terra was President of Uruguay from 1931-1938.
