Quick facts: The Blakely Mountain Dam was authorized by the Flood Control Act of 1944. Construction began in 1948 and ended in 1953 when the gates where closed, thereby creating Lake Ouachita. The earth dam is 231ft high and 1100ft.

Bull Shoals
Location: AR

Quick facts: This is one of four multiple-purpose projects constructed in the upper White River Basin for flood control and power generation. The dam was started in 1947 and completed in 1951. The Phase I powerhouse and switchyard were completed in 1952. With installation of the final two generating units in Dec 1963, construction was completed at a cost of about $86mn.

Ozark Beach Dam

Quick facts: In 1909, a groupd of St Louis businessmen formed Ozark Power and Water Co to build a HPP on the White River. The proect was approved in 1911 and work got underway. The Ozark Beach Dam, also know as the Powersite Dam, was designed in 1911 by Nils F Ambursen as the largest concrete buttress dam of its kind. The 1,300ft long structure is in Taney Co, and the reservoir it forms is Lake Taneycomo.
