Bennetts Bridge Location: NY Operator: Brookfield Power Corp Configuration: 2 X 6.4 MW, 2 X 8 MW Francis Operation: 1966-1970 T/G supplier: WSM, GE, WH Quick facts: This plant was certified by the Low Impact Hydropower Institute. It is part of the Salmon River complex about 20mi from the river mouth on Lake Ontario. The plant discharges into the Lighthoue Hill Reservoir. The plant dam was built in 1913/14 and a 3km pipe runs to the powerhouse. Sold by Niagara Mohawk to Orion Power Holdings in 2002 and ultimately acquired by Brookfield.

Fort Miller Location: NY Owner: Mercer Cos Configuration: 2 X 2.5 MW pit Operation: 1984 T/G supplier: Axel-Johnson, Brush EPC: Albany Engineering Corp, J Kenneth Fraser & Associates, Laquidara Inc Quick facts: In Feb 1983, Mercer was selected by the Fort Miller Pulp and Paper Co to partner on the joint development of this project on the Hudson River in Saratoga and Washington Counties. Fort Miller utilized many new technologies, including the first use of a pit turbine and the first use of a pre-cast labyrinth dam in the United States.

Green Island Location: NY Owner: Green Island Power Authority Configuration: 4 X 1.5 MW Kaplan Operation: 1920 T/G supplier: ?? EPC: Stone & Webster Quick facts: Green Island is on the Hudson River in Albany County on federal land administered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It was built to supply electricity to Ford Motor's nearby factory producing radiators and springs. The Ford plant was Green Island’s largest employer until it was closed in 1988. The factory was demolished in 2004, but the dam and powerhouse have remained in operation. In 2000, Albany Engineering began renovations at the Green Island plant which is owned by one of only three government-affiliated power authorities in the state. The dam and power plant were sold by Ford to Niagara Mohawk, which in turn sold the plant to Orion Power. Albany Engineering oversees day-to-day operations.

Lighthouse Hill Location: NY Operator: Brookfield Power Corp Configuration: 2 X 3.75 MW Francis Operation: 1930 T/G supplier: ?? Quick facts: This plant was certified by the Low Impact Hydropower Institute. It is part of the Salmon River complex about 20mi from the river mouth on Lake Ontario. Lighthouse Hill Reservoir is a 1,311m impoundment formed by a 116ft concrete gravity dam and a 99ft earthen dike. Construction of the dam in 1929 and was completed the following year. A third turbine bay is in the powerhouse and could house a 2.15-MW machine. Sold by Niagara Mohawk to Orion Power Holdings in 2002 and ultimately acquired by Brookfield.

Little Falls Location: NY Operator: Brascan Power Configuration: 2 X 6.5 MW S-turbine Operation: 1986 T/G supplier: Dominion Bridge Sulzer, Siemens Allis EPC: Morrison Knudsen, Cianbro Quick facts: This project was owned by affiliates of Delta Power, CMS Generation, Burrows Paper Co, and multiple individual limited partners. Power is sold to Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. Delta Power acquired United American Energy’s 18% interest along with a 33% interest in two related entities in Dec 2003. In Jan 2005, Delta Power sold its interest in the project to Burrows Paper.

Niagara Project Location: NY Operator: New York Power Authority Configuration: Moses 13 X 205 MW propeller (upgraded rating); Lewiston 12 X 25 MW FPT Operation: 1958-1959 (RM), 1961-1962 (L) T/G supplier: BLH, GE, AC Quick facts: The Niagara Power Project, located downstream from Niagara Falls, has two related generating facilities, the Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant and the Lewiston Pump-Generating Plant. At completion, it was the largest hydropower facility outside the Soviet Union and it remains the the biggest electricity producer in New York State. In 1991, a $300mn upgrade started at Robert Moses during which all turbines are being replaced along with other improvements. Completion is scheduled for 2006.

West Delaware Location: NY Operator: Brascan Power Configuration: 1 X 7.5 MW Francis Operation: 1988 T/G supplier: Voith, Electric Machinery EPC: Morrison-Knudsem Seward Corp Quick facts: This plant is on a 45mi water tunnel from the Delaware River to the Roundout Reservoir serving New York City. It was one of the first merchant hydro plants in the Northeast USA. Delta Power acquired the project from the original developer United American Energy in DSec 2003 and sold it to Brascan Power in Jan 2005. Power is sold into the New York wholesale market.
