Clover Bar Landfill Location: Alberta Operator: EPCOR Generation Configuration: 3 X 1.6 MW G3520 engines Operation: 2005 Fuel: landfill gas E/G supplier: Caterpillar EPC: Finning Photograph courtesy of EPCOR Generation |
Eastview Landfill Location: Ontario Operator: Ecotricity Guelph Inc Configuration: 3 X 925 kW G3516 SITA engines Operation: 2005 Fuel: landfill gas E/G supplier: Caterpillar Quick facts: This plant is operated by a subsidiary of Guelph Hydro Inc. The landfill site was opened in 1961 and was closed in 2003 with approximately 4mn tons of solid waste in place. Wells were spaced 40m apart and were drilled to an average depth of 15 to 20m. Because gas production is declining, the developer has been contracted with lowered generating capacity in the second half of a 20yr power purchase contract with Ontario Power Authority. The facility is connected to a 13.8kV feeder owned and operated by Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc. Photograph courtesy of Ontario Power

Warden Energy Centre Location: Ontario Operator: Markham District Energy Inc Configuration: 2 X 2.6-MW G3520C engines CHP Operation: 2008 Fuel: natural gas E/G supplier: Caterpillar EPC: Toromont Quick facts: Opened 2 Jun 2008, this facility supplies electricity for the grid and thermal energy heat for Markham Centre where it is used to heat and cool commercial, residential and institutional buildings. The site is owned by the Town of Markham and leased by Markham District Energy. Photograph courtesy of Ontario Power Authority |
Trail Road Landfill Location: Ontario Operator: Power Trail Inc Configuration: 5 X 1.06 MW GC 320 GS-LL engines Operation: 2007 Fuel: landfill gas E/G supplier: Jenbacher Quick facts: PowerTrail Inc is a joint venture of Energy Ottawa and Integrated Gas Recovery Services Inc. Landfill gas is from the Trail Road Landfill Site and the adjacent Nepean Landfill which are generating gas at 2,600 to 3,000 m³/hr. It is expected that the gas resource will support the power plant for 20yrs. The plant is connected to Hydro Ottawa’s Fallowfield Substation, which required 3.2km of new overhead line and 170m of underground cable. Annual production is expected to be 41,000 MWh/yr.
