Quick facts: This €181mn plant was built on a 70ha plant in 6½mos. It was one of the world's largest PV installations at completion. There are 172,000 200 Wp modules installed, each weighing 18kg.  Annual output is expected to be 44 GWh/yr and the solar park will have 10 full-time employees. The plant was designed to make for easy dismantling at the end of its useful life. Prefabricated ballast beams eliminated buried foundations and rolled hot galvanized members were used for the metallic supporting structures. These will be easily recycled.

Quick facts: This facility consists of 200 modules, each with 80, 100-kWp subsystems. The first phase was completed to schedule in Feb 2007. The construction workforce was about 100 people, most from local companies. In total, Beneixama has about 100,000 City Solar PQ 200 crystalline modules equipped with cells from Q-Cells produced by its partners Aleo, Solon, and Tenesol. The arrays cover 500,000m² in an area 3km from Beneixama, inland from the Costa Blanca. Annual global radiation incident at the module level is 1,934 kWh/m². Average output is expected to be 30 GWh/yr. Siemens was responsible for the electrical equipment including wiring, transformers, and inverters.

Toledo Solar

Quick facts: This landmark project was one of the early large-scale Spanish PV plants and was built by a JV of Endesa, Fenosa, and RWE with financial support from various German and Spanish organizations and the European Commission. The site is in La Puebla de Montalbán 30km from Toledo. The plant has 8,000 modules in two 450-kW arrays with fixed structures and a 100-kW single-axis tracking system. Installation began in Feb 1993 and was completed in May 1994 on schedule and to budget. Production reached 1,270 MWh in 2000.
