Quick facts: At completion in Jan 2006, this $13.2mn project was the largest of its kind on the East Coast. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU), the Bayonne Board of Education, and the state Board of Education installed solar panels at Bayonne High School and eight elementary schools. The project was made possible in part by a $5.4mn grant of equipment and installation credits from the NJ Clean Energy Program.

Quick facts: The electricity from these panels is used to power blowers that pump landfill gas to a PPL Energyplus power plant with three Cat 3516 engines. The landfill is owned by the Pollution Control Financing Authority of Camden County, which partnered with PPL and the New Jersey Clean Energy Program to build the PV plant. Annual output is expected to be 560 MWh.

The solar array has 13,000 panels on fixed structures built on a brownfield site. It cost about $24mn.
