Quick facts: In Sep 2004, China Guodian broke ground on this pair of units in Kuqa County, Aksu Prefecture, in southern Xinjiang. The units came online in Mar and Dec 2006, respectively, and are connected to the local 220kV grid. The two units cost Rmb 1.2bn and two 350-MW units are in planning. The project is invested by China Guodian (85%), Aksu Guoxing Investment Management Co Ltd (10%) and Kuqa County Assets Management Co Ltd (5%). Kuqa is the western terminus of the West-East gas pipeline and at completion, this was the largest thermal power plant in the region

Manas

Quick facts: In Oct 2008, the second 300-MW set went into operation at Manas, thereby making the site the first 1-GW power station in the province. Unit-7 was put into operation in Jun 2008 and the Phase-III project cost Rmb 2.5bn. Northwest Power Grid Co built 140km of new 220kV line and associated substations to accommodate the new units. Units 7&8 were retrofit with wet limestone FGD scrubbers in 2009 and Units 1-6 had semidry FGD kit fitted in 2010.
