Quick facts: This plant is in Shengqiao, Baoshan District, Shanghai, next to the Bao Steel Works. It was the first 1-GW plant in Shanghai. Development began in Apr 1982 and construction started in Apr 1985. The four units went commercial in Feb 1988, Dec 1988, Sep 1989 and May 1990. In Jan 2003, Shidongku-1 became fully owned by Huaneng Power.

Quick facts: These were China's first 900-MW class supercritical units. The 980-MW sets are said to have a thermal efficiency of 46%. Shanghai Waigaoqiao No 2 Electric Power Generating Co Ltd was invested by Shenergy Co Ltd (40%), GD Power Development Co Ltd (40%) and Shanghai Electric Power Co Ltd (49%). Construction started in May 2001 and the units went online in in Apr and Sep 2004, respectively.
