Quick facts: Eesti is 20km southwest of Narva and is the world’s largest oil shale-fired power plant. Site preparation began in Mar 1963 and the first unit was commissioned on 30 Jun 1969 with a new design boiler. From 1998–2001, the two boilers at Unit-8 were dismantled and in Oct 2001 work got underway on retrofitting a new CFB boiler from Foster Wheeler. Start-up began in Sep 2003.

Quick facts: Klaipedos Energija was founded in 1929 when its first power station was completed, a coal-burning plant on the Dane River. The plant was rebuilt in 1959 and connected to the Lithuanian grid. As the district heating load grew, new heating boilers and heating lines were built and the plant was converted to oil and gas fuels. The company is now partially owned by Fortum and a 20-MW biomass and refuse-fired extension is in planning.
