Quick facts: Hämeenlinna is said to be the first condensing power plant built in Finland. In 1980 it was converted to CHP operation and in 1989 a Frame 6 gas turbine was installed. Finally, the coal-grate boiler was replaced by a BFB boiler in 1998. A 10,000 cu m thermal storage tank is installed.

Quick facts: In Jun 2013, Fortum commissioned this new biofuel-fired plant about 35 northeast of Helskinki. It can supply 130 GWh/yr of electricity for the gird and 280 GWh of heat for about 34,000 residents in Tuusula and Jarvenpaa. Design fuels are forest residues and forest industry by-products. Te project cost about €80mn.

Quick facts: Project development began in Nov 2005 and Keljonlahti was approved in May 2007 after various legal proceedings. Excavation began in Jan 2008 and steam blows for the CFB boiler were completed in Nov 2009 and the unit went online in Mar 2010. This is one of the largest peat and wood-fired generating units in the world. The boiler is coal capable. Architects were KVA Arkkitehdeille Oy. The stack is 130m high.

Quick facts: In Dec 2006, Poyry signed a services agreement with PVO subsidiary Porin Prosessivoima Oy for a new biomass CHP plant at the Sachtleben Kemira Pigments factory at Kaanaa in Pori. That same month, Metso received a letter of intent for a €50mn contract to supply a CYMIC CFB system for the plant, which completed in 2011 about 3yrs past the initial schedule. The installation has a capacity of 65 MWe, 140 MWt of steam and 70 MWt. Metso also supplied the air pollution control equipment. The plant cost about €140mn.

Quick facts: Converted to BFB operation in 1993. Main fuel is milled peat with about 30% of heat input from forest wood chips and sawmilll waste in central Finland. The plant supplies electricity, district heating to the city of Jyvasklya, and process steam for the M-Real Pangas paper mill. Heat from the DHS system return is supplied to Viherlandia, a nearby greenhouse. In Jul 2012, Metso was contracted for an extensive automation renewal project at Rauhalahti.
