Quick facts: The Alegria wind plant is on a 2,243ha site on the Atlantic Ocean near
Guamaré, in Rio Grande do Norte. The first phase started up in Dec 2010. When fully built out to 151.9 MW in
2011, it will be the largest wind park in Brazil. Alegria is grid-connected
via a 3.5km, 69kV line to COSERN's Guamaré substation. The WTGs were
delivered through Porto Suape in Pernambuco.

Macau Field

Quick facts: This unique project replaces a portion of the electricity use at Petrobras production facilities near Macau with renewable energy. The local onshore fields Conceição, Salina Crystal, Macau and Serra are connected to a small Petrobras 13.8kV grid which previously was 100% supplied by electricity from COSERN. Two small offshore platforms at Aratum have onboard diesel gensets. The reais 6.7mn wind project went online in Dec 2003. The WTGs are connected to the local 13.8kV gid seving the onshore facilities and a new 4.16kV, 6,350m cable was built to connect the Aratum platforms.

Quick facts: These four machines replaced 4 X 300 kW Tacke turbines
installed in 1996 at Mucuripe Port in Ceará as one of Brazil's first commercial wind plants. The new
plant opened in Jan 2002 and the dismantled Tacke turbines were sent to Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC) and Universidade de Fortaleza (Unifor)
to assist in technical instruction and training. Electricity is sold to Coelce.

Quick facts: In August 2001, Siif Energies do Brasil announced that it
would invest $1bn in five wind farms in Brazil’s northeast. In 2005, SEBL
was acquired by Aeolus Wind from EDF Energies Nouvelles and the company
was later sold on to an investor group consisting of Citigroup, Liberty
Mutual, and Black River Asset Management.The Paracuru wind park about 90km
from Fortaleza in Ceara was commissioned in December 2008 with 12 Suzlon
WTGs, part of a 225-MW WTG order placed in Oct 2006.

renewable energy with special tariffs.
