The site is privately-owned Atherton Tableland dairy farmland. The project included an underground 22kV electrical reticulation system, SCADA system, and wind monitoring equipment. The turbines are installed on 44m, 2-piece tubular steel towers and fitted with 22m blades. At completion Windyhill was one of the largest wind plants yet built in subtropical territory. This area is reputed to have the cleanest air in the world. The Phase I plant went online in Aug 2002 and included a 22kV line to Smithton.
