Horns Rev-1 Location: Denmark Operator: Dong Energy A/S Configuration: 80 X 2 MW V80 Operation: 2002 WTG supplier: Vestas, ABB Quick facts: Many contractors and suppliers were used for the Horns Rev plant including MTHS Entreprenør A/S (foundations), Nexans (cables), Siemens (switchgear and shunt reactor), Semco Maritime (low-voltage and monitoring system), ABB (cables and switchgear), Alstom (transformer), and HBG (substation platform). The project cost about €270mn, of which grid interconnection amounted to €40mn. After repeated problems with the WTG's electrical gear, Vestas dismounted the nacelles and returned them to shore for overhauls. This process was completed in Dec 2004.

Horns Rev-2 Location: Denmark Operator: Dong Energy A/S Configuration: 91 X 2.3-MW SWT2.3/93 Operation: 2009 WTG supplier: Siemens EPC: Energinet.dk, Aarsleff Bilfinger Berger Joint Venture (ABJV), Bladt Industries, Visser Smit Hanab/Global Marine, Nexans, Siemens, A2SEA, Semco Maritime, Esbjerg Havn Quick facts: Horns Rev-2 is 30km off the west coast of Jutland in the North Sea in water depths of 9-17m. Construction began in May 2008 and the first turbine was installed on 19 Mar 2009. On 17 Sep 2009, the project was inaugurated by Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik and became the largest offshore wind park in the world. With average wind speeds just below 10m/s, annual output is expected to be about 800 GWh. Horns Rev-2 is the first offshore wind farm to be manned year-round by up to 24 workers staging from an offshore maintenance and transformer platform dubbed Poseidon.
