Alta Wind-I Location: CA Operator: Terra-Gen Power LLC Configuration: 100 X 1.5 MW SLE Operation: 2010 WTG supplier: GE Wind Energy Quick facts: On 11 Jan 2011, GE Energy Financial Services and Bankers Commercial Corp each acquired a 50% stake in the Alta Wind-I wind farm in Tehachapi. The project is being leased to its developer, operator and manager, Terra-Gen Power, LLC.

Hatchet Ridge Location: CA Operator: Pattern Energy LP Configuration: 44 X 2.3-MW SWT-2.3-93 Operation: 2010 WTG supplier: Siemens EPC: RES America Quick facts: Hatchet Ridge was completed on 27 Oct 2010, the only wind plant of this size to complete in the state in 2010. Construction took about 1yr. The site is on Hatchet Mountain near the town of Burney in Shasta Co. Siemens manufactured the turbine blades in Iowa and Ameron International of Fontana CA manufactured the turbine towers. PG&E has a 15yr, PPA for the plant output.

High Winds Location: CA Operator: FPL Energy Configuration: 90 X 1.8-MW V80 Operation: 2003 WTG supplier: Vestas Quick facts: PPM owns all of the High Winds output which is sold to wholesale customers in California and the Pacific Northwest. About two-thirds of the output has been sold to public utilities including the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, and the cities of Merced, Glendale, Pasadena, Anaheim, Colton, and Azusa.

Montezuma-5 Location: CA Operator: Sacramento Municipal Utility Dist Configuration: 8 X 3-MW V90 Operation: 2006 WTG supplier: Vestas Quick facts: The towers are 415ft tall. The original 18 turbines at the site have been decommissioned. These were the launch 3-MW V90 machines in the USA and the wind plant was officially opened by Danish PM Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Vestas CEO Ditlev Engle on 12 Jun 2006.

Mountainview-III Location: CA Operator: PPM Energy Configuration: 34 X 660-kW V47 Operation: 2003 WTG supplier: Vestas Quick facts: In Oct 2003, PPM said it would build and own the Mountain View III wind plant in Riverside Co. The project was jointly-developed with SeaWest WindPower.

Pine Tree Location: CA Operator: Los Angeles Dept Water & Power Configuration: 100 X 1.5-MW Operation: 2009 WTG supplier: GE Wind Energy EPC: Kiewit Quick facts: This project is 110m north of Los Angles in Kern Co. It was first announced in 2003 but delayed for years by permitting issues and other problems. The project was acquired by LADWP in Nov 2005. Ground-breaking was in Feb 2008.

Shiloh Location: CA Operator: PPM Energy Configuration: 100 X 1.5-MW Operation: 2006 WTG supplier: GE Wind Energy EPC: Mortenson Quick facts: In May 2005, PPM Energy acquired the fully permitted Shiloh project in Solano Co from enXco, an affiliate of EDF Energies Nouvelles. Tehachapi Pilot Location: CA Operator: GE Wind Energy Configuration: 1 X 1.6-MW Operation: 2011 WTG supplier: GE Wind Energy Quick facts: In May 2011, GE unveiled the 1.6-100 WTG. This was developed from GE's 1.5-MW machine with components from the 2.5-100 model. The 100m blades were designed for lower wind speeds and the swept area is almost 50% greater than that of GE's 1.5-MW WTG.
