Quick Facts: In Mar 2000, Regione Campania awarded a contract to Fibe SpA for construction and operation of the Acerra WTE near Naples. The company comprised Fisia Italimpianti SpA, Impregilo SpA, Babcock Kommunal GmbH, Deutsche Babcock Anlagen GmbH and EVO Energieversorgung Oberhausen AG. The controversial project was necessitated by significant and long-standing waste disposal problems in the area. Work began in August 2004. In Oct 2008, A2A business unit Partenope Ambiente took over management of the €355mn project and it was partially commissioned in March 2009. The three-line plant is by some measures the largest single-unit WTE plant in the world. Design throughput is around 600,000 tpy.

Quick Facts: Development of this plant started in 1998 when authorities tendered for a new, privately-owned WTE plant for Southern Calabria. The TEC SpA (Termo Energia Calabria) scheme includes the incinerator and five regional collection sites in Reggio Calabria, Gioia Tauro, Siderno, Crotone e Rossano Calabro, giving a total nominal throughtput of 411,000 tpy of of MSW, of which 120,000 tpy is used in the WTE plant. Two lines were built, the first completing in 2004 and the second the following year.
