Quick facts: This intercommunal water treatment and waste handling company was formed in 1959 by eight municipalities, Dietikon, Geroldswil, Oberengstringen, Oetwil a d L, Schlieren, Unterengstringen, Urdorf, and Weiningen. The WTE plant was started up in 1993 and a second line was added in 1995.

Quick facts: This operation is owned by Stadt Zurich and supplies Zurich-Nord and the university district with heat and waste services. 5-MW T/G sets were buil in 1973 and 1982, these are now retired. The WTE plant and associated infrastructure was updated in a CHF 235mn project completing in 2010. Throughput is about 240,000 tpy of MSW plus around 30,000 tpy of wastewate sludge.

Hinwil

Quick facts: KEZO started up in 1963 with its first waste handling facility. A 13-MW generating unit was built in 1970 and a second unit was added in 1976. The furnaces were replaced and refurbished in 1996 and 2000, respectively, and the APC plant was replaced in 2012. In 1996, a third incineration line was added and the first T/G set was replaced. In 2009, a greenhouse was built by Gebruder Meier to use the waste heat and a second larger facility was built in 2014 by Beerstecher AG.

Quick facts: TKVA horgen was found in 1964 and today serves about 100,000 people. The 2-line plant was rebuilt in 2015/16 with new APC equipment, a new T/G set, and incresed heating output. The original line was taken out of service. Throughput is about 65,000 tpy of MSW and biomass.

Quick facts: In Mar 2007, voters approved a CHF 187mn project to replace the first unit at the Stadtwerk Winterthur WTE plant. Work got underway in Sep 2008 and commissioning of the new line began in Feb 2012. The new 24-MW unit is expected in full operation by the end of 2013 at a total cost of about CNF 214mn.
