Chaux-de-Fonds New

Quick facts: In Mar 2008, Cridor and Saiod, two existing waste handling and disposal companies merged to form Vadec SA. The new company serves 355 000 inhabitants in 268 municipalities in the cantons of Berne, Jura, Neuchâtel and Vaud with two waste treament centers in La Chaux-de-Fonds and Cottendart, both in Neuchâtel. The first, 2-line WTE plant at La Chaux-de-Fonds went online in 1972. A new single-line facility was built in 1994 with 50,000 tpy capacity and a new turbine added in 2000. The exterior treatment of the new plant was designed by architect Pierre Studer for an urban setting that had been in more-or-less continuous use since a gas plant was built on the site in 1897.

Quick facts: The first incinerator at KVA Linthgebiet went online in Nov 1973 and the second in 1984 serving 29 municipalities in Glarus, 16 in Schyyz, and 13 in St Gallen. In 2001, the first incinerator was replaced and the second refurbished. Annual throughput is about 115,000tpy. In Jun 2008, the company directors approved CHF 36mn of new projects including  new shredders and balers and a new slag processing and metals recovery facility.

Quick facts: The Gevag WTE project started in 1968 when a group of 33 Bündner municipalities joined together to plan joint refuse disposal strategies. The first facilities at Trimmis went into operation in 1975, by which time there were 43 participants. In 1988, Gevag was formed and the number of towns in the association had gone to 63. The incinerator system was retrofit with a 5-MW steam set in 1990. A second line was added in 2003.
